Agar Alsh-Shati Oldest Village in the South

The old village of Agar Alsh-Shati (-Oasis), has as center the tower or (Qasba), which is the highest place, surrounded by houses gradually descending to the entrance of the Mosque and Quranic School which is close to the Fountain with its large oval basin from which drinking and washing water is supplied, then the flow run through canals to gardens and farms.

Around the Mosque and the Fountain the Sufi's lodges which served also as guest houses for travelers and wanderers, a variety of people - Arabic, Moslems, Travelers and Explorers, who adventured in the Immensity of the desert, or Tourists who were delighted by the wonderful environment, Merchants too came to exchange Oasis dates with wheat & the coast and mountain products in the north or the products of the south like feathers, spices and the products of the African forest. From this Oasis stated scholars, freedom fighters and those who went looking for a better life in large cities.

Theology and selling documents and Governors decrees all manuscript were found, which indicates its importance in past centuries. One English writer visiting Agar Alsh-Shati indicated that Ciclopic Walls were found which show how deep in time our oasis goes.

No dought when excavations and methodic restoration takes place, the Historic value of this Oasis will come through.
